with a slicing grin,
you stole me.
my future space becomes a vacuum.
with a piercing sigh,
you stole me.
my current space becomes dim.
with a cutting shudder,
you stole me.
my past space becomes all.
end the war on our minds, bodies, and spirits.
break rape culture.
take back the night!
take back the day!
take it all back
to your thinking
it was my fault.

thank you for understanding!
Beautiful and powerful.

So, one of my resolutions was to read more in general and at least four poems a day. Today I happily tallied up my four on your blog alone. Your voice is frank without being simplistic and in this piece in particular, you have a naturally musical repetition that serves as the perfect pulse for the poem and beats its point like a new life’s determined heart (and honestly, I adore the visceralness of “you stole me”).
what a great resolution. thank you so much for the detailed and kind feedback. I appreciate it. ๐
You’re very welcome. When I comment I try to be specific and detailed, especially with poetry and prose because as poets and writers, people grow best when watered with the detailed drops of what they are doing well and what they could improve upon. Also, I don’t really see the point of being overly brief, if I just like something, then I’ll just hit the like button rather than being redundant and saying as much. ;]
